About Ohio Penworks
My interest in pen making began in 2009, when a co-worker inspired me to try turning pens. Like most new pen turners, I quickly learned how much care and precision go into producing a great-looking pen. But it was an observation from my wife that ultimately shaped what would become Ohio Penworks: no matter how well a pen is made, the pen blank can make or break its appearance.
That observation started me down a different path. I began researching and experimenting with label-cast pen blanks, looking for ways to combine distinctive imagery with clear resin to create blanks that could become something far more personal than an ordinary pen.
Today, Ohio Penworks specializes in handcrafted label-cast pen blanks. Carefully selected artwork is wrapped around the pen tube and cast beneath crystal-clear Alumilite urethane resin, creating depth, clarity, and imagery that becomes an integral part of the finished pen. The collection includes wildlife, patriotic and inspirational designs, music, sports, scenic imagery, fantasy, fine art, and many other subjects, along with custom blanks created from customer-supplied photographs or artwork.
I rarely turn pens myself anymore. Instead, I concentrate on creating the blanks that other pen turners transform into finished pens. One of the things I'm most proud of is the loyal group of customers who return to Ohio Penworks again and again when they're looking for the blank for their next project.
Every Ohio Penworks blank is individually handcrafted with attention to the details that matter when it reaches the lathe. The goal is simple: give pen turners a distinctive foundation for creating a pen with character, meaning, and a story of its own.
